| It's been a hot topic about HKIA should build a third runway or expand the two existing runways we currently have. The choice is obvious, WE NEED THE THIRD RUNWAY!! There are alot of debates about this project, and alot outsiders (those don't understand much about aviation, means our government and politic LEADERS!!) have been voice out like, "IT COST TOO MUCH TO BUILD THE THRID RUNWAY," "WE DON'T NEED THE THIRD RUNWAY, OUR AIRPORT IS FINE," "WE SHOULD USED THESE BILLIONS OF DALLARS FOR SOCIAL WELFARE," "IT WILL KILL ALL OUR EXISTING DOLPHINS," "WE SHOULD USED THESE MONEY TO REMOVE THOSE ILLEGAL BUILDING WORKS FOR OUR GOVERMENT LEADERS" (Ok I made up the last one) We already see what happened in New York JFK Airport and London Heathrow Airport, they maxed out their capacity and become nightmares for travellers, pilots, air traffic controllers, airport staffs, airlines employees as the economic impacts affect their city in large. I don't recall anyone like to fly to JFK except those Chinese peoples who prefer fly to JFK because it's closer to Flushing's Chinatown than fly to New York Laguardia Airport. Of course, traffic congestion + mother nature could hammer JFK easily (remember last December that CX flight got stuck at the taxiway for 14 hrs?) London Heathrow used to be the top airport in Europe, however, its capacity max out and London regulation does not not allow the airport expands any further, it end up Frankfurt take over as number one in Europe and will expect to maintain the top airport in the Europe in the near future (oh FRA is building a new runway too) Ok New York and London are in America and Europe, respectively, so they may not be a good comparsion to HKIA; let's look at major cities in Asia. Seoul has two airport, Bangkok has two airports, Tokyo has two airports, Shanghai has two airports, Taipei has two airports, Beijing will have two airports (second is planned and underway.) All these cities have two airports because the old one was max out so a new one is needed; meanwhile, when they new airport open they remain the old one as domestic or as back up for international. Bangkok old airport was effective when the Red Clothes Army took over the new airport few years ago and alot charter flights still fly to the old airport; Seoul Kimbo is remodelling and reopen its international routes; Tokyo Haneda opened its new international terminal and up running; Shanghai Hongqiao start to add more international flights again, Taipei Shongshan remodelled its terminal for international flight operations and Taiyuan is re-construct its runways. It's like HKG is getting double-team in this competition! Can we bring Kai Tak back? Last time I passed by and saw Kai Tak, I could barely recongize it because everything are gone! So do you think a third runway can help HKG to maintain its competitiveness? Absolutely!! Expand two existing runways, it will not help much at all! 2030 is seems far away but if we don't act up now, we will lose our edge and eventually lost our status as the top airport in the world. I just feel sad that some peoples can't see how much impact will have to our future generation... | | |
| The last two days might be my worst days for a long time.. Friday I had the worst game of the season. Today I had the worst day at EI. Last night game at Riverdale couldn't be too bad...Drew and Riverdale rivalry which I found out after the 1st game. 2nd game I though it could be good since both coaches n players know each others...1st half was closed, although I admitted I miss few calls on the perimeter. 3rd Qtr was alright until 3 mins left, something changed as we let the game started out of control a bit...we beated ourselves! By the time the game was over...we just want to get the fxcked out here.. Today at EI, we were smooth until I had to load the rollerbed...my forklift stucked on the bridge as one wheel was hanging between the dock and the trailer!! Damn it, took about 10 mins of try and my forklift out or propane! Shit...called warehouse supervisor, warhouse manager and my manager, nobody pick up their damn phone!! Worst, damn DL rejected our cargos because someone try to be a damn TSA expert! Anyway, after took almost an hour n half and get all shits done...I'm dog tired... Want to give a special shout out to TuckTuck! You helped me big time tonight!! If you didn't stay late to help me out, I would have a mental break down! Also, kudos to AFA driver John Freeman, this is the man who gave me support when I struggled at the dock! | | |
| Had my 1st ever back to back basketball games this week. All I feel is....DAMN I feel great to back on the court and officate those kids! I was rusty on the 1st game, but after my partner threw a T on the girl coach, I'm back to normal. It's all good. Friday was a big shock experience, last mintue call in even I was stand by, made it to the game but partner was there yet. So I had to call the 1st 5 mins by myself. 1 man crew is tough!! Don't know I should be trails or lead. I just had to keep moving to see the court! Anyway, found out later my partner was a true rookie (I consider myself a rookie again since away the game for 12 yrs!!) Good, there were 4 games so the second crew is a veteran and he gave me some advised. Always good to have advise to improve myself! then after the game, met with other refs for a beer n dinner. It's all good!! Next Tue will be a new task, 3 JV games in a row..hope my legs can hold on to it. | | |
| Colloquially, a workaholic, is a person who is addicted to work (the correct medico-legal term is "ergomania"). The phrase does not always imply that the person actually enjoys their work, but rather simply feels compelled to do it. There is no generally accepted medical definition of such a condition, although some forms of stress, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder can be work-related. | | |
